Plus One

Hi guys!

It's been a few days since I've written and I am so sorry about that! I know you live your days waiting for my posts haha ;) I wish I could say I've been busy, but we all know that's not true. Connor and I have been spending our days at home (when he's not working) and just enjoying Hulu Plus and HBO. You can probably guess I've been cleaning a ton, cooking a little, and trying to find little things that make me feel productive or creative. I am absolutely dying to go to school again, but the process through the Veterans Affairs is taking awhile. Until then, you can find me at home painting, reading, or at Target.

Connor has been trying to convince me to make a big commitment with him for a few months now. One besides our recent marriage. He wants a puppy! Okay, yes I know puppies are so cute and how could I even need convincing?! I just haven't been much of a "pet person" my whole life. I feel like recently there has been enough change and chaos and I don't need to add potty training, puppy breath, and hair shedding into the mix. With or without the chaos though, I am never really ready for any of those things.

Connor FINALLY broke me down. I guess I could use the company right now anyways. Potty training isn't that bad, right? Afternoon cuddles...walks to the park...OKAY! So I am excited for our baby girl, alright? Connor let me find a breed that we could agree on (one that doesn't shed a ton) and I have fallen in love with Germain Shorthaired Pointers. The blue eyes and that chocolate face kill me. We have done our research and found some for sale about 2 hours from us. Today Connor made sure we went to look at them. We immediately fell in love. After playing around with all of the girls, we finally decided one was our little babe. We decided on the name Guinevere. They are almost 6 weeks and we are able to pick her up on Thursday. We are so so excited to welcome her into our little family and fall even more in love with her. We'll keep you updated on our little adventures!

Cooking for Two

Hello!

It's Monday night and I am watching Connor play a new video game that just came out . He seems very into it which gives me a little time to pay attention to you guys!

Since I was in a college dorm, then the barracks, then another dorm in the Air Force, I haven't had too much of an opportunity to cook for myself. I always have just bitten the bullet and spent my whole paycheck at Whole Foods' hot bar. So pricey! Either that or just eat things that didn't require cooking. My diet got to be very boring.

Being married now, and in a home, I have the opportunity to finally cook my meals and save a little money eating at home. Oh, I guess I have to cook for Connor too. The first day he asked me "what's for dinner?" I panicked. I thought, "Katie- this is your chance to prove yourself. You've got this. Don't mess it up." I ended up picking something super easy, something that I had somewhat of an idea how to make, and that something was Spaghetti. Boil the noodles, add the sauce and meat, and there you have it! It ended up being very good (thank God) and I was pretty satisfied with my skills.

It hit me. I am going to have to cook almost every day. Not just for myself, but for my beloved husband. The conflict with this was A) I needed to learn how to cook meals and plan for them and B) I am the pickiest eater EVER. We still have little battles at the grocery store when it comes to so many things, but we always compromise with one another. Because that's how things have got to be now. Sometime's you've got to sacrifice skim milk for 2% for the one you love.

In my desperate search for meal ideas, I recalled some of my favourites that my mom has always made. I called her to get some recipes (still text her to make sure I'm always doing it right) and got on Pinterest and searched away. I found so many awesome recipes! Most of them were intense, so I decided to start with the easy basics. Here are some of my beginner meals to help you through the first couple of times in the kitchen of married life- or single!

Saturday Happenings

Hi there!

Hopefully you all have had a fun and restful weekend! Connor and I had a pretty exciting one! For us at least. Friday we went out to dinner with Connor's brother and sister and their spouses and then went and played at an awesome nickel arcade! It was a lot of fun getting to feel like a kid again.

Saturday Connor and I woke up with "the itch". You know... the tattoo itch. We get it way too often! It's so hard not to when we have been wanting different pieces for so long. I will get into my different tattoos, what it's like having tattoos, how I feel about them, and how others view them in a later post.

Connor and I grabbed some tea and coffee at the coolest little shop called The People's Coffee and headed over to the tattoo shop. We did some research and came across an amazing shop in Salt Lake City named Cathedral Tattoos. Not only was the shop incredibly decorated and played out well, but we felt completely comfortable and the tattoo artists were very welcoming. The gentleman who tattooed us was named Jake Miller and he has amazing work! Connor had been wanting to get a flintlock pistol and I have always wanted a rabbit. We both have different reasons behind why we wanted what we wanted. We both tend to lean towards the traditional style as well so what we got fit perfectly with our other pieces! We both are super pleased with the way they turned out. I now have 5 tattoos and Connor is on his second.

Shortly after we got tattoos, we decided to keep the fun going and go to The Pie Pizzeria in Salt Lake City! It's always so delicious and cheesy :) If you ever go to Salt Lake, you definitely need to go! We finished our night with full tummies and a Lady Gaga marathon on the car ride home. It was perfect!

Today, Sunday, We are enjoying the "relaxing" part of the weekend and watching the show Community on Hulu. We managed to put some shoes on with our pajamas to run and grocery shop, but aside from that, you can find us here on the couch all day! How was your weekend? What did you  do? Any new tattoos recently?
