War Paint

Hello, hello!

Let me tell you about some of my recent favorites in the beauty department! I am the type of person that sticks to one thing for years and rarely really branches out. The first type of makeup I ever wore at the young age of 13 was Bare Minerals and still to this day, it is the only foundation I will put on my face. Bare Minerals is and always will be a staple in my beauty bag. I don't think that I would really be willing to try any other foundations...well, maybe I would...but I can tell you right now that I wouldn't adopt it into my beauty regimen. While Bare Minerals' foundation is here to stay, I am always open to try any type of other beauty product. Below are a few things that I have recently tried and have absolutely loved!

Benefit's 'Gimme Brow' gel is so amazing. I use pencil sometimes, but I have found that using this gel really helps keep your brow color thought the day and helps gel the hairs to stay in place.

Below that, are my Bite lipstick multi-sticks. LOVE. These can be used for eyes, cheeks, and lips, which is so nice to have it all in one place. When I'm on the go, these multi=sticks allow me to add color to where I may need some extra life ;)

I usually only wear mascara when it comes to eye make-up, however, recently I have had the urge to try and master the cat eye look with eye liner. It is so much harder than it looks, for me at least. At first, I was using a black eyeshadow and a tiny slanted brush, but I noticed it was smudging all over my eyelids and umber my brows all of the time. In search of the perfect liner, I went into Ulta and consulted with some of the gals working there. They suggested I try Stila's All Day Liquid liner, and let me tell you, I will never go back. The felt tip let's you make more precise strokes, thick and thin, and it stays on all day with NO smudging. Score!

Sugar Bear Hair vitamins! Have you heard of these? Not only do the gummies taste delicious with a berry flavor, but the vitamins really help to grow your hair fast. I really started to notice it about halfway through my second bottle and I feel like I am making so much progress! These vitamins are filled with Biotin, Vitamin C, Folic Acid, and so much more. They are vegetarian gummies, gluten-free, soy-free, gelatin-free, and cruelty-free!

Here, on top, is my Too Faced contour kit. Contouring is (was?) a huge trend recently and so of course I wanted to try it. While I definitely have no idea what I am doing with this kit, I like what it is capable of doing (haha!) It smells like chocolate, which is always a plus, and for beginners like me it was really easy to start using and understanding how to contour.

Along with countouring is highlighting. The first round case on the bottom is a powder highlighter by Laura Geller in 'Guilded Honey". I love this highlighter because it's not super glittery and the golden tint to it is so beautiful. The last highlighter in the black tube is more of a creme stick highlighter. I found this while creeping on a beauty blogger from England and so I had to try it for myself. I love this because you can layer it on to increase the effect.

In the middle of the bottom is a sample I got from Ulta of Spackle make-up primer by Laura Geller. I have NEVER used make-up primer until now, and I love the fact that it's tinted. This primer goes on really light and doesn't feel oily at all. It also really helps keep my make-up on longer throughout the day and night. I am really growing to love Laura Geller!

Tossd. I just found out about this salt spray last week and wanted to give it a try. I have never used a salt spray before, and if you love having salty beach hair, this is so perfect. I love the fact that it helps give volume to my incredibly straight hair. Since it is salt spray it can sort of leave your hair feeling almost crunchy, but that's what it's supposed to do I promise!

I  have heard of Mario Badescu Skincare for quite sometime it feels like, and just like the primer in a photo from above, I came to use this product from a sample given to me from Urban Outfitters (weird, I know). I immediately fell in love with this cleanser just after the first use! For me, this cleanser really helps to reduce redness on my face and the redness of blemishes. It feels gentle on my face and smells great too. I would highly recommend this cleanser, but if you have super sensitive skin, I would sample it before purchasing.

I haven't ever been a big eye make-up person, but I am really wanting to branch out and try it. When I have used eyeshadow in the past it has always been the neutral colors of browns and golds and I am ready to test out some more "loud" colors for fun. I know that Kylie Jenner's products have gotten mixed reviews, but I want her Peach Palette and Apricot Lip Kit so bad. I want to try out peachy pink tones for the Summer and that electric blue is crazy, but in a good way! I have tried to get a lip kit of hers before and it was pretty much impossible because of the insane amount of traffic on her site, so I won't be too bummed if I can't snag one of these kits because I have really low hope haha!

So there it is! Some of my favorites of right now. If you have anything that you are absolutely loving right now, let me know! I am always looking to try new things (except for foundation ;))

It Happened Again...

It's I fell off the face of the Earth. Remember last year when I wanted to start blogging again and more often? And when I said the same exact thing a year before that? Well, it's happening again.

You guys, I REALLY want to do this. Blog, I mean. And I'm not gonna say that I'm doing it for you or that I am doing it because I want to be "Insta-famous" or "blog famous", but I am doing it for me. I am sick and tired of putting things off that I really enjoy doing. Painting, blogging, taking photos, sewing... that has all slowly disappeared out of my life over the last couple of years (especially 2016) and I NEED to start doing these things again. So here I am. Writing on Desert Dame. The beginning of my plan to have more of a creative outlet. I am going to be really hard on myself and make sure to write here weekly, if not multiple times a week. I've got this.

Last time I posted was in January of last year. I know...a lifetime ago! So I wanted to take this opportunity to update you (whoever you are) on my life. A year ago I was going to UVU for Graphic Design, still pretty fresh out of the military, and was about only 5 months into being married. That sounds so crazy to me while writing this because it will be our 2 year anniversary this Summer. Time flies! While I am still married, school has been all over the place over the last year. From UVU I went to the Academy of Art University based out of San Francisco (online) for Interior Architecture and Design. After a couple of pretty rough semesters of that, I decided to go back to what I did and studied while in the military. I am now at UVU again and studying Computer Forensics and Security, and actually am really liking it! It is really different in the civilian sector so I feel really out of the loop on some things, but I think I am getting the hang of it. I am taking some required Criminal Justice classes which have recently inspired me to *MAYBE* become a police officer. I am loving the classes and my teacher (a woman who is ex-military and an ex cop) is so amazing. I would love to eventually work with a police department doing cyber crime and forensics, but it's been on my mind to maybe be a police officer for a few years. I'm not really sure if I'd really want to be back in a uniform or not and Connor doesn't especially love the idea...but it's just a thought.

What else, what else... oh! I am a brunette now, and to be completely honest, it probably won't last more than a couple of months...but we'll see! Connor switched his major from Marketing to English Education. He is really excited and I have never seen him so motivated and ready for something. I think he's nuts for wanting to be a high school English teacher, but I think he will be great. Since this January, Connor has joined a boxing gym and is totally loving it. I have been doing the Kayla BBG program, along with both of us eating healthy, and it feels so good to be getting back in shape again. So far I have lost 10lbs, but I have quite a way to go still. I am really over Utah, guys. It's pretty and everything, but wow. The Winters here absolutely kill me. I am a desert dame after all ;) lame joke. This Summer we are planning on going to Hawaii for a week and working/going to school for the rest of the time. Other than that, we really don't have a whole lot of "new" going on.

I have a lot of really fun ideas for some upcoming posts, so stick around!

Here are a few recent pictures of the gang (and some art that I did recently) >>>>>
